3. Glenapp Castle Hotel, Ayrshire

On the other side of Hadrian’s Wall is a magnificent castle that spoils you (and your dog) in top-notch luxury. Dogs can partake in most of the activities in the area too, such as the Glenapp Boat for full or half-day excursions. Play tennis or croquet with other humans too.

4. Belmond Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons, Oxfordshire

5. Pennyhill Park, Surrey

Check in with up to two dogs at this 19th Century country house. Pennyhill Park is really easy to get to from London, and offers guests tranquil spa treatments and Michelin star dining. Enjoy a warm, sunny afternoon hacking through ancient woodland with your furry friend(s).

At 850 acres, Gleneagles has largest grounds in this list and even features a gun dog school and dog training centre if you want to work on new skills with your dog whilst you’re there.

9. Bovey Castle & Spa, Devon

If you’re a fan of understated luxury, then Bovey Castle is the dog-friendly hotel for you. Whilst the main dining room is for humans only, dogs can join in the English tradition of Afternoon Tea in the Cathedral Room or on the outdoor terrace.

10. Inverlochy Castle, Highlands

Och! (As the locals say…) This wee (it’s not wee at all actually) castle is a jewel in the Scottish Highlands. We’re pretty sure you’re dog is going to love it here – even Queen Victoria stayed here, and her Trip Advisor review is the stuff of legends (literally). Human food is crafted by Albert and Michel Roux Jr., and there’s a special dog menu too.
